GUWAHATI: The dilemma on college admissions in Assam ended on Wednesday, as the Assam education department launched a common admission portal in Samarth e-gov suite as per the National Education Policy-2020 for admission to all colleges offering undergraduate (UG) courses. For the last few weeks, colleges were receiving numerous queries regarding the admission mode but even the college authorities were not certain whether Samarth will come into play from this academic year starting July. Samarth, a Union education ministry initiative, offers more than 40 software modules for the management of a variety of workflows across five critical functional domains of university operations and administration, including admissions.”Launched Assam State Higher Education Admission Portal under @Samarth_eGov to streamline the admission process of all State Universities and Govt-aided colleges across the state. The portal http://assamadmission.samarth.ac.in will be open from 10:00 pm tonight,” tweeted Pegu, soon after the launch on Wednesday.Pegu said from this academic session itself, colleges will have to join Samarth. He said even as competitiveness is growing due to an increasing number of aspirants knocking on the doors of higher educational institutions, the previous admission system deprived many students of mediocre merit.
